I will be playing my first full-length solo recital ever (not counting high school) in the early fall; Memorial Baptist Church where I work has decided to book me for a concert that will be a benefit for two worthy community organizations that they support.

I am working on this with the help of an excellent teacher who knows my abilities and limitations, but I value as much input from as many people as I can get! Right now the only recordings are those already on the site and on Youtube; I'll add more WIP recordings over the next several weeks.

Of course you're all invited if you enjoy Connecticut in the fall...

I am planning:

Debussy group - Preludes book 1 - Ce qu'a vu le vent d'Ouest (recording on site), Des pas sur le neige, and Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir

Modern group -
Higdon: Secret & Glass Gardens
Bellissimo: one or two Problems for Piano
Harrison: Reel: Homage to Henry Cowell (recording on youtube)

Haydn sonata - Hob. XVI:33 in D major (recording on site)

Schumann group - Fantasiestucke Op. 12 nos. 1-5 - Des Abends, Aufschwung, Warum?, Grillen, In der Nacht

Looks like an interesting program!
That "Bellissimo: one or two Problems for Piano" really looks interesting! I've never heard it, nor even seen the name before. Do you have a link to it that we can hear?

Sure. Jake Bellissimo is the youngest of the composers included on my upcoming contemporary music recording project. He is from CT, is a violist and arranger/sideman for strings in folk and bluegrass bands, and will be a freshman at the Eastman School of Music in the composition program this fall. I am very interested in his use of line and harmony.

Jake just completed a new piece called "For Jules Jeanson" (2 movements chamber, 3 movements solo piano) which I'm also learning and will record as a separate project, but that's a bit too long to perform on this program.

A complete recording of Problems for Piano performed by Andrew Langman is on Jake's bandcamp site here:

Here are three WIP Schumann recordings.
These are all single takes on my practice piano, hence the sound quality and flubbed notes...

EDIT: I was in a hurry and forgot to list the titles!
Fantasiestucke Op. 12
1. Des Abends (Evenings)
2. Aufschwung (Soaring)
3. Warum? (Why?)

I only had time to listen to the first piece. Sounded very beautiful. Nice playing, Heather. I'll try to get to the other two tonight.

Thanks Monica!
Now, I wonder if other people besides you would listen if I posted these in the Audition Room? ....

I did listen to these a while ago but forgot to post a comment. Of course you have the measure of these and it is just a matter of time before you nail them real well. I found these versions a little stressed and hard-driven, I really missed the soft evening balm of Des Abends (hard to bring off, I know). Even Aufschwung does not have to sound so angry. I hope you'll be more relaxed later on - more time and a good instrument might help.

How many people would listen in Audition Room is hard to say. There's not many active people around these days, and many tend to leave serious commenting to the admins anyway. Not like it used to (and should) be. But what can you do.

Thanks for the comments, Chris.

I appreciate the comment about Abends. I've been trying to do different interesting things with the lines, but there's also a time and place for just relaxing a bit more. I will try it that way.

I do like a fierce sound in the A theme of Aufschwung, but now that you mention it, the other sections do sound too stressed. I'll try to balance things out with calmer B and C sections (which take up more time than A anyway). Maybe more steadiness in the tempo would help?

I really appreciate your (all of your) ears.
Heather

Yes of course, but IMHO you crossed the line between fierce and angry here. Could be that the none too pleasant piano sound is partly debet here. Maybe on a good instrument it would come out just right. Let's see.
