I beg your pardon? Hacking is what you do when the gui does not work and you have go back to good old fashion programming from command line. It is not an insult, it is the other way around and what distinguish good programmers from bad.

Beautifully played! It also lifted the clouds for me - it is very coherent and meaningful. Particularly the phrasing and the RH runs are very well done and the balance between hands perfect, bringing out the singing melodies.

You already got extensive criticism so I cannot add much. For what it is worth I think the 2nd mov tempo is fine, and that if you want to put more effort on this you might consider upping the tempo of 1st and 3rd a little bit - though not at the price of losing your fine control. The thing that bugged me the most were the rhythmic disruptions in the 1st where you seem to hesitate before the main beat, as already pointed out.

(And yes, in Sweden "hacking" is a noble pursuit, producing beautiful things through a non rule based procedure. I do it all the time...)

Thank you! I'm not taking lessons currently so nobody instructed me about that main beat thing. I can probably edit out the hesitation. Unless that would be cheating too much? Hmmm....

I really enjoyed this. There's a nice contrast of touch in the first movement, between the sound of the opening statement and the pedalled leggieramente sections. I noticed the trill problem at bar 45 before I checked with my score, but that's easily fixed I'm sure. It's not a problem with the trills per se, it's the gap after them. Some of the scalic l.h. quavers (e.g. from bar 24) are a little uneven, but not glaringly so. Second movement tempo is perfect as far as I'm concerned; in the fact the whole movement is really well-played - the trills are spot on and the slight rubato touches are tastefully done. Good sense of question and answer phrases in the third movement. Once again, a thoroughly meritorious recording and well done!

Thank you, Andrew I have barely touched my piano the past few days - have no enthusiasm - but your words are perking me up a bit and I almost feel like practicing again.. When I do, I will work on these trills and the uneven spots.

that´s a very good performance throughout! I think I haven´t anything to remark here except a constructively meant suggestion: I don´t know exactly what means the prescription "alla tedesca", but I think the first movement is played a bit well-behaved (brave), it could be wilder and a bit faster. I think this is more one of the early sonatas of Beethovens storm-and-stress-period. In every case Beethoven had a lot of temperament, which I´m missing here a bit. So in the last movement, too, but more in the first. The second movement is absolutely adequately played IMHO.
But let me give you a big praise for your precision and your dynamics! All is very elaborated, which would be the perfect base for a less well-behaved but more free and expressive interpretation.

Hi Andreas. I don't agree about playing the piece any more 'wilder'; I'm pretty happy with the way it is here. But thanks anyway for listening and commenting. It's interesting to hear different opinions.
