That´s interesting, in every case I think, it would be a quite big change of rhythm of life, if a german flies to USA and reverse.

Yes, it is a bit hard to adjust. Although, I think it is easier for Europeans to fly to the USA than it is for Americans to fly to Europe. Unless you can sleep on the plane, which I cannot do easily.

A difficult piece to take on, Monica. Stylistically I mean. Sometimes following a simpler way is the best bet to such pieces. I think your playing of this Gershwin prelude is fine. Would you consider playing more in the future?

Hello Pantelis, nice to see you again.
Thank you for listening, although I'm not really sure what you meant by 'following a simpler way...' And yes, I like Gershwin very much and would love to learn more of his music, but time is my enemy these days and I have to maintain the three Preludes currently and won't be able to tackle anything new until next summer. Why do you ask? Do you have a certain piece in mind?

Well, the simple way is to just play and don't bother making the piece something others would like to hear. Gershwin is an unusual case as a composer. He is loved both by jazz and classical fans. The former would like to hear jazz elements in all his music while the latter would prefer formality over style. The strange thing is that they are both right. Gershwin, in my opinion, is all of these things while at the same time remains so simple - his pieces seem more like easy going tunes although the pianist will discover their difficulties once engaging with them.
No, I didn't have anything specific in mind, I just asked if you would continue with Gershwin because such a composer should have more recordings available here at PS.

Ok, thank you for the explanation. I agree we should have more Gershwin on the site. Probably not from me, though. I mostly just 'sing' his songs in the shower. I don't think the world is ready for that! But how about you, Pantelis? I know you would be quite capable in producing some great Gershwin recordings!

I would love to find the time to sit down and practise Gershwin stuff but this seems impossible at least in the near future. I am too involved currently in different repertoire and I wouldn't want to just touch the surface of Gershwin pieces. The composer deserves full dedication. Apart from that I am a slow learner, I need time to absorb a piece. Productivity is my week point.

But, I wouldn't say no to a team effort. If, for instance, we decide to increase the number of Gerswhin recordings, why not some of us take on one piece each? This way variety and diversity would be served along with quantity.

That's a nice idea. Ok, it's hard to pick because there are so many I love, but for now I will just choose the song, "Someone to Watch Over Me." There ought to be a good arrangement of that around somewhere.

I've contemplated starting on some song arrangements in the past. But so much to do already, and I don't think I have the easy swing required for it.

I was also thinking about song arrangements. I am going to take on 3 of them: "Nobody but you", "I'll build a stairway to paradise" and "Who cares". Now, if two or three other pianists here would take on 2 each, then we would be able to complete the set of 18 Gershwin standards. The score is not extremely difficult and each song is quite short. I'm not suggesting that Gershwin is easy but why not try?

Ok, I'll add to my list, "I've Got a Crush on You", and "Summertime".

edit: I'm also going to do "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and "The Man I Love".
