A little game....

What do all the composers shown in the current banner have in common? The winner will get to request images for the next banner. :)

They all seem to be Spanish citizens.

Congratulations - You have just won a brand new refrigerator! haha

Yes, they are all Spanish composers. Richard, you can pick out 7 images or even just tell me what sort of images you'd like and I'll make Your banner. Remember, only classical-piano-related things/people, please. :)

edit: I bet no one can name all these 7 composers....

I can name Albeniz, Granados, Falla, Espla, Mompou and Turina. Of one I can find no photograph that matches.

I sort of forgot the last one too...

Do you any ideas yet of what images you'd like me to use for the next banner?

I thought of him, but the only other portrait of his I found included dark glasses.

I will have to think of names. But surely you will not be changing the present banner so soon?

You'd have lost that. I'm a huge Rodrigo fan.

Who is Joaquín Rodrigo? (is that better Alex Trebek? )

There is no rush. And you don't even have to think of seven people. I can always fill in with images of pianos and things like that.

Too bad you didn't take the bet. You too would have won a brand new refrigerator! :)

I don't know anything about Rodrigo. Did he write a lot for piano? I wonder if I'd like him as much as Granados, Albeniz, and Mompou...

We could do with one, but I saw it too late. Have to admit I had to think for a couple of seconds there. I knew I'd seen the picture before but could
not immediately place it.

He wrote quite some stuff but it's a bit more gritty, dark, and forward-looking (sometimes backward-looking) than the above. A most fascinating composer. His piano concerto is quite a mammoth, the outsize cadenza in the first mvt is stunning.

The Rodrigo image is when he was fairly young. I think most people think of him when he was older and wore the big glasses - like the image we have on the site.

"Dark" stuff is good, but "gritty" sounds like it's too hard for me?

Harmonically gritty, I meant. He can sound rather contemporary, even abstract, at times. His fusion of Spanish renaissance with modern harmonies is uniquely personal (not unlike Stravinsky in fact).

I just did a little reading about him....looks like he wrote more for guitar than piano. I recently purchased a four-CD set of classical guitar music, so I probably have heard his music but didn't know it.
