Hi,

Here is my new recording (just a few days ago) of the Mendelssohn - Op.14 - Rondo Capriccioso in E minor.
I will post a video soon.

I have a Rondo Capriccioso already up at the Piano Society, but I would like to replace it with this new recording.

-Kaila

Mendelssohn - Rondo Capriccioso in E minor, Op. 14

Bravo (or brava)! What a fine work-out! I think Mendelssohn would feel very well represented! Nice job Kaila.

Very nice, Kaila. I can't remember your first version, but this one sounds great to me. I have replaced the file.

Hi Eddy,

Thank you so much!

While recovering from my surgery, I was able to really concentrate and plan my approach. It was wonderful to have time to focus on one piece. I think of the Rondo section as being somewhat ethereal, sprite like with carnavelesque interludes and some tender spots.

I just bought a book of Mendelssohn's 'Songs Without Words' and really look forward to working through it.

thanks again,
Kaila

Hi Kaila,

Yours is a brilliant performance of the "Andante and Rondo Capriccioso". You bring a wonderful lyricism to the Andante and with your command of touch and nimble articulation, you achieve the light, pixie-like quality of the Rondo. Despite this being one of Mendelssohn's earliest piano pieces, it has endured as a masterwork. This rendition is a very fine accomplishment, Kaila.

Hi David,

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I was able to facilitate a higher level of expression through a more focused eye/hand coordination while practicing this piece.

I characterize the rondo as very pixie like, reminiscent of little mythological creatures going about. The interludes between the repeated rondo motif seem to tell a story about a place that is somewhat and earnestly carnavelsque with all kinds of artists, acrobats, performers and magicians busily working at their crafts.

Relaxation of the thumbs and the upper arm being very free in movement are in general very essential to playing Mendelssohn. I had a great time practicing this piece in fifteen minute intervals with a focus on the challenge at hand. Woke up this morning and ran to the piano with the Songs Without Words and cannot wait to devour this book.

Thanks again for your kind words,
Kaila

Hi Kaila, it was a while back listening to your first rendition. From what I vaguely remember, your new version sounds even better. From the outset, the sound has conviction, there is more fluidity to your style, more dynamic intensity and shadings between ff and pp, better technical control throughout, and perhaps a tad faster. This is one piece I never learned, but your performance sounds like a musical tour de force.

Hi Kaila,
I think it's very beautiful.

But you made me sad because i was going to put some recordings of mine but now i think i'm not that good, and i need to improve more.
I'll put some recordings of mine soon, and i hope you enjoy them like i enjoyed your piece.

Fawaz Dabbaghieh.

Hello George,
Thank you for your encouraging words. I was really able to concentrate while home in the weeks following the surgery.

Thanks again,
Kaila

Kaila,

Overall a very commanding and impressive performance, convincing to me though I'm not by any means a Mendelssohnian. I particularly liked your subtle dynamic nuances and nimble passage playing. Your Andante intro evoked a certain sad grandeur. In the Presto, it seemed maybe you got a bit tired toward the end so that clarity and evenness suffered slightly, but you basically met the technical demands well. Many of the 16th arpeggio runs are very elegantly played and well-balanced against the left-hand melody. IMHO this is a performance whose strong musical intention diverts attention away from its few technical infelicities. I very much enjoyed listening.

Joe
