It is a while since I inflicted any of my playing on you guys, and I've been thinking for some time that I should try to get back into this recording lark. Accordingly, I here submit Scarlatti's sonata K335 in D. Recording quality isn't wonderful--I tried to EQ some of the harshness out compared to my earlier recordings, and I mixed in a bit of reverb (maybe a bit too much in the opening bars?) There are a few dodgy notes, both from the piano and my fingers

Actually we're seriously considering getting a new piano. The old B&R is a nice enough instrument for what it is, but the piano tuner as much as said he can't do much with it any more. (I had him voice one of the notes and within a week it was back the way it had been.)

This is nicely played! The piano does sound a little bit funny. I think though if you tell people it's a 'period instrument' they would believe you. Just say you're playing a fortepiano!

I really enjoyed this and your piano works for this music. It does have that period instrument effect. Your playing was very sensitive and you had great control over each note.

And now we know who wrote the melodrama "villain" theme I wonder if Beethoven studied this one when he wrote his piano sonata, op. 2 no. 1?

Thank you Monica, and thank you everybody for your kind comments. Re the piano sound, it may be something in the postprocessing or my recording setup--I'll keep experimenting, but since the consensus is that it works well for the music, I'll leave this one as it is.

Scott, I'm not sure I should say that every note was perfectly under control but the more I study Scarlatti, the more he seems to reward attention to detail. You do have to pay attention to every note, particularly on the piano and particularly since there are no phrasing marks to help you. In this piece, the parts with the syncopation over the lh minim accompaniment needed a fair bit of phrasing work so the lh didn't sound bangy and dull, so I'm glad it came off OK.

I enjoyed your playing of this Scarlatti sonata. I particularly liked your staccato style all through the piece. The rhythm is nice and the articulation is clear. Lovely.
