Tchaikovsky - Album for the Young Op.39

I recorded this lovely set in 2007 (didn't even realize it was that long ago). While serviceable, that was not up to current standards. This re-recording is. At least I'm happy with it. Well I was back then, too... but that was then and this is now

I listened to about half of these - the one's I know. I don't remember if I commented on your last recordings, but what I listened to today sounded very nice and well-played. The only thing that bugged me a little is that I think you used too much reverb in no.5 "Soldiers March". It's so echo-y that it got little annoying after a while. If I were you I'd redo this one with less reverb, like whatever you used in the Italian piece because it sounds fine on that one.

Indeed, this particular reverb gets a bit funny on detached, dry staccato chords, I noticed that before. Not sure what to do about it. I did not want to choose another reverb type. It's an annoying little march anyway

Hi Chris!

I just listened to "Soldier's March", "Sweet Reveries" and "At Church" - all nice and accurately played to my ears.

With the reverb: often you can adjust the reverb's high frequencies (damping; or some sort of eq): that might help a little with "Soldier's March", apart from the advice that has already been given by Monica...

At the end of "At Church" you left some time after the piece is over, that's when I realized you can hear a clock ticking - at first I thought it was some pedal-noise. Of course, if you should ever re-record this piece, you would have to sample some big clockwork to reach the right atmosphere - then the recording would fit to the playing

Thanks for the feedback Jan. I have re-applied the reverb for that Soldiers March, slightly toning down the Total reverb time. Didn't feel like endlessly fiddling with the other parameters. Now it seems a lot better, at least I think it's no longer irritating.

Hm, ticking clock... That's bad

I admit my ears are not the best in terms of picking up very soft or high sounds, and my headphones are the cheapest stuff from the local PC store, but I really could not hear it. It's possible though. Usually I insert silence after a track but here I decided to let it completely die down. It will probably be a one-off.

Well, it's a little better than the first version but still a bit too much reverb. Maybe it is just the piece, I dunno... I did not hear a clock, though.
