Did anyone else catch Carrie Underwood singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl? GAH that was awful.

Okay, it wouldn't have been so bad if she'd used auto-tune...

At least it wasn't Roseanne Barr.

She could go head to head with Enrico Palazzo! Why do singers have to do all kinds of modern malismas of our National Anthem - it should be sung simply, majestically, and with reverence, and not become a showcase cinema...

Fortunately, it was a great game!

Almost no one sings it well. The best one I have ever heard at a sports event was Martina McBride. She totally blows all other female pop vocalists out of the water.

Did anyone notice that Canada isn't immune to less than good singing of the National Anthem. I wasn't very impressed by the singer of "O, Canada" at the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I couldn't tell if she was singing in French or English or Both (of course, the first words don't help). She was also rather pitchy.

On a different note, what about that opera singer (Misha I think is her name)? I haven 't seen hair that big since the 70s. I was looking for the two silver streaks and a man standing behind her with bolts in his neck. She did have a gorgeous voice and did some great diction on the ending consonants but I couldn't tell how any of the words began. And again I couldn't tell if she was singing in French, English, Greek, Inner Mongolian or what.
