Oh, that was very nice. Another Liszt transcription that I like better than the original! I do very much like Schubert's piece, but I really like what Liszt has done with it. Having a third hand would sure come in handy for all those 'echo' parts. Maybe it could also done as a duet. Interesting - these Liszt (and also Kempff) transcriptions are opening up a whole new world for me.

And Horowitz's playing is beautiful. His tone and colors are so varied, so delicate. Thanks for posting this.

You're welcome! ;)

I, too, am discovering a whole new world in these transcriptions. Some of Liszt's greatest genius lies in these.

Find the user name: Liszt73

He has most, if not all, of Leslie Howard's recordings of all the Liszt compositions.

OMG, that guy Liszt73 has sooooo much Liszt up there - it will take me days to look through it all! But thanks, J. Now I know where to look when I need to listen to a certain Liszt piece.

It's an American-English saying, though not too common. Prob and bob are supposed to rhyme.

I came across this and thought it was another strong testament that Horowitz could take even a piece that seemed easier to interpret and inject staggering genius into it. A very, very sensitive playing of Medtner.

Thanks for bringing that recording up. One of my favorites. It's too bad H. didn't play Medtner in public or record him any other time than this one. :( He played the Sonata Reminiscenza in the 1920's I believe, but that's about it for public performance. However, people who knew the Horowitz's well said that he knew virtually all of Medtner's music. Amazing, amazing talent. 8)
