Ouch

Woke up this morning with a severe pain at the base of my RH thumb. Got so bad during the day that my hand is all but unusable and hurts with every movement and I went home from work after lunch (last time I called in sick was over 4 years ago). Guess I better go see a doctor tomorrow. I feel totally crippled... had great trouble buttoning my shirt this morming. Any thoughts of touching a keyboard are far away. Sh*te this is no life

Chris, this is not good news at all! Yep, I think a visit to the doctor's office is in your very near future. I sincerely hope that it's a problem that's easily remediable. Bach would be very lonely without you (not to mention PS).

Thanks sarah. But I think ole JS can do well without me these days, as can PS.

Very funny. Actually, what coincidence, just the other day I dragged through Bartok's LH etude just to see what it was like to play LH only. I'd try that again if I did not feel like a wrung-out rag.

Chris, I hope it's nothing serious. In the worst case scenario you will be anyway able to play the Elizabethan repertoire following the performance practice of the time. :lol:

Thanks all for the concern

Just back from the doctor, he reckons it's tendonitis caused by overstraining. I blame tuesday's fitness when we were trying to push some imaginary limit. Nothing to worry about, should be fixed in a week or so when I give it rest, cool it, and take my anti-inflammatory medication. It's damn inconvenient though, and hurts like hell.

Whew, glad to hear it shouldn't be a permanent disability. Be sure to take the meds! (I know to say that because I have two brothers and a dad. :wink:

It's cleared up very quickly, so quick that I wonder if it wasn't just some knee-jerk reaction instead of tendonitis. I can hardly feel it anymore now and am back to normal.
It was a good opportunity to peruse some left-hand repertoire, which I'd never done in my life before. A nice experience and not as strenuous as I thought it would be. Had a good stab at the Bartok Etude, Brahms/Bach Chaconne, and Scriabin Prelude&Nocturne. I dismissed the Saint-Saens Op.135 etudes after playing through them once though. What boring drivel :roll:

The etudes are not that exciting. You should instead play the 2-piano arrangment of his piano concerti; record the secondo and then play over with the primo :wink:

Actually, it's already over but it feels like I must be careful not to overdo RH stretching for a while.

this month after a long hiatus from the two-handed repertory. It's an all Bach program.

There's always a silver lining; you were able to explore rep you probably wouldn't have bothered with otherwise.
