Friday the 13th - a great day to start a new cycle: The 12 Spanish Dances by Granados.
No 5 is the famous Andaluza. almost always heard for guitar but it is an original piano piece.

I'm sitting here drinking my coffee, watching the sun come up on a cold clear day, listening to Spanish piano music. What could be better! Thanks for the start of a nice morning.

Very good as well. I am not very familiar with Spanish music but I can surely smell the sense of the Spanish atmosphere in there.

However Granados' 'Spanishness' is more generalized that that of other famous Spanish collegues. It harks back more to Chopin and Schumann (though not particularly in these pieces), and evokes the spirit of elegant 18th century Madrid more than it conjures the blazing colours, the grit, dust and heat of southern Spain with its unique blend of archaic, gypsy and moorish idioms, permeated by flamenco rhythms and the cante hondo. Falla and Turina, and late Albeniz, come much closer to that.
