Too soon for me to say anything, except the path is expected to be similar to Gustav.

The windows stay boarded for one more week. :x

"Ready Ike? Kick the baby!"

I'm just jealous 'cause I can't watch on account of the kids anymore! hehe ... I had to stop when they started quoting ... thankfully he was just singing the crab people song, but I knew it could soon be much worse!

Hurricane Ike is rapidly growing in size and beginning to show clear signs of extreme intensification potential.

He looks an awful lot like Katrina did at this point in her life cycle. With the tight, round eye, surrounded by expanding, inflow and outflow channels.

Here's Ike now,

And Kat at a somewhat more developed phase...Obviously the two pics aren't identical, but Ike is showing very similar dynamics at work. Not good news for Houston.

If I could make a prediction, Ike could very well reach Cat 5 intensity with a Katrina-like appearance. That thought makes me nervous, because if Ike grows in enough in diameter and gains enough intensity it could interact with an approaching frontal boundary making the predicted r.h. turn much sooner. Not good news for me, either!

Heh, Katrina blocked the satellite view of the Gulf pretty much completely when she was over it. She was huge...

Isn't the resemblance between Ike and Katrina remarkable?!?

The picture on top is Katrina, bottom is Ike.

Ike is a huge storm!!! Much larger than Katrina (thank God, not quite as intense) Galveston will be devastated, I'm afraid. The storm tide (not to be confused with the storm surge) will be tremendous! A water rise of 25 feet is to be expected from Galveston Bay, Texas to Holly Beach, Louisiana! Even at my house, 200 miles away from the eye, the wind has been going a steady 55mph all day! I think I saw a gust of 70mph...It was loud.\\

Anyway, I'm writing this post from a UPS because the power just went off! AGAIN!!!!

I really hope it doesn't stay off for another 4 days.

Anyone from Houston, please update us.

Pete

Ike slams into Galveston Bay, Texas; Houston takes a direct hit!

I think I'll take the boards off my windows...FINALLY! :x

Shreveport's starting to get the rain bands now ... Being the good parent that I am, when kids asked, I said of course you can go outside and play in the hurricane rains! they're having a blast ... i'm watching them as I type right now. hehe

Galveston looks bad ......

Give them a bottle a shampoo so they can wash their hair. I used to do that when I was little.

We got some feeder band action here, too. Gotta love tropical rain, out of a mostly clear blue sky, that only last a few minutes at a time.

Well, everything's cool here. We had a house full of friends/family last night ... big party. About 1/3 of city is out of electricity still this morning. We never lost any, so lots of guys ended up camping out at our house. The kids loved it ... it was a lot of fun.

Houston looks pretty bad though.

We are getting hit hard in Chicago right now. Ten inches of rain has fallen since yesterday and it's supposed to pour again all day today, which is now the remnants of Ike. We're watching our basement very closely. My court/culdesac is a lake.

I hope you stay dry, M! I'm always amazed at the amount of real estate affected by these tropical cyclones. I wouldn't be surprised if our friends in Canada and even Europe feel the effects!

Sometimes, these storms can end up circling the globe a couple of times, in one form or another!!!

Just for fun, I'll track the path of Ike and its resultant extratropical cyclone.

Here he is around western New York.

Ike has left the premises! Wow....what a lot of rain we had this weekend. I now can claim to have river-front property (the river is supposed to be across the street but all streams and rivers are flooded way over their banks.) Our basement survived, though. :D

J - did you get all this rain too?

Ike is the large cloud-mass entering the North Atlantic at the top center of the picture...
