amazing!!!! wibi soerjadi is a exentric pianist but he can transcribe/compose like no one just listen

his transcription of 'the gladiator" are at minut: 40.55 to 45.50

His transcriptions are amazing. He could've been Liszt. The Borsato transcription was amazing. The Gladiotor was fine as well. He uses the three-handed-technique of Liszt. I watched the DVD and I found out that he plays arpeggios up with 2 hands and a melody in between.

However, I find his playing less inspiring. Maybe that's because he recorded some pieces at home, on his special Bechstein, and it sounds a bit "castle-like" :) :P. But I heard a recording of when he was 18, and that was very good. He played the Beethoven Pathetique, a few Rachmaninov pieces, Chopin Andante Spinato et Polonaise Brillante and some Liszt (Don Juan and Benediction de la Dieu dans la solitude (sp?)). I think now he plays too much strange repetoire, and strange like combining very unfamous pieces with very overplayed pieces. When does he ever record a complete set of something? He only plays pieces, but no sets of pieces.

I think he's good. very good. But when you see the technics he is using and you are try to do the same technic you will play the gladiator transcription in a few months! really I tried it and I've got him almost. In intervieuws he looks nice. Somethimes he act like a little child. But when you send him a email you don't get an answer. He is really strange. I emaild with brautigam and Jan Vayne. They are very nice. Jan Vayne helpt me with some things I couldn't work out! I had an intervieuw for my script for school. I emaild him and 45 minuts later I had the intervieuw back with al the answers!!!

What a nice guy its the part that wibi is missing!

His technique is very good. But only technique is not enough. His playing somehow lets many people think of Liszt, and personally he might be quite like Liszt, his style. But what I miss in some of Liszt's works I also miss in Wibi's piano playing.

Btw, did you email Brautigam and you got answer :shock: ?? What did you ask :lol: ? I didn't know contact with pianists was so easy...

if I could mett him after he played the first 3 pianoconcerts of beethoven (day after that he played the last 2)

and He was very very gentle we could ask him things. A snare sprung. And I asked how the pianoforte where he played on could reach that height because a pianoforte is lower than a grand.

he is very nice. Big autograph at my wall.

Very interesting, thanks. I love the Gladiator score. Did not care much for his bland opening section with the endless arpeggios - that sounds could like any cross-over pianist. But the "battle" section is extremely impressive, even though he does go on a bit and in the end rather makes a caricature of it. He should have used another of the great tunes to wind it all down. Great virtuosity though.

yes the last part is a bit less than the other parts. I really liked the opening. I really love the technic because you have very much notes but you can clearly hear the beatiful melody!
