yesterday my new piano is arrived (the third of my life, after a Petrof and a Seiler).
It is a Rieger-Kloss (the same pianos are branded "Bohemia", they are made in Czech Republic ), model "Janacek", 1,85 long.
I'm now very very happy, as a child with his new present. I compared it for a long time
with Yamaha C5 and Kawai rx-3, but the choice was made from the first minute I played it.
Not a Steinway, a Fazioli, a Bosendorfer or a Yamaha S, but I find that this piano has a
strong, particular personality. Very fashinating for my tastes, and today I played it for
5 hours consecutively (never happened before). I had the surprise to hear myself to
play with a different style respect the digital I used for my recordings here : less agogic
modulations, less pedal, a more "serious" behaviour. I think this is because the better
phisical quality of the sound.... with the poorer digital sound one is forced to exagerate for
comunicating. I hope to be able to share with you this new sound reality today I've met.
Not easy (the recording with digital being much easier), but I'll try in the next months....

And that name - Janicek or Reiger Kloss - it sounds so familiar. I think I played on one at my last recital. I remember the bass notes were really nice.

So...I was going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight, but in honor of you, (and since I already had some for lunch - I love spaghetti ) maybe I'll make some Bohemian dumplings or goulash or roast beef with ginger (yum, I'm making myself hungry).

I must make a choice between a) a good videocamera b) a good audio-recording equipment.
I know that you and others use EDIROL for audio recording, and the results are good. But I've read
also about a certain noise at low recording levels (I've read that r-01 was better from this point of
view, that is the pre-amp quality). On the other side, 2 good microphones (I thought that Rode with tube class-A alimentation, an audio hardware slot (Echo, Yamaha, or similar) and a new PC
(more silent and with fire-wire access).... more than 2,5 - 3 K euros.
It would be a very good thing (video very good and decent audio) if the new videocameras HD
had the possibility to record mp3 or similar; but all they (HD Sony, JVC, Panasonic, etc.) have
only the Dolby surround standard....

Thank you to you, Mindenblues and PJF. In heaven......uh, really in my life it's the first time
I stay 5 hours consecutively at a piano. And without fatigue. In certain moments there were fascinating sonic siyuations. There are 2 hypothesis: a good piano or a good pianist (more probable the first; it has a spectacular sound sustain time and level, almost as an organ; the other great difference respect my digital: the half key playing).

I think we have a glut of audio and a paucity of video. I say go for the video camera.

I've been known to sit down at the piano with the early birds and not get up until sunset. (In summer, no less!) I know the feeling of a new piano, Sandro. Enjoy yourself!

I think that noise of the Edirol's is really audible in every take. It is very handy, and often I already wished I had an Edirol to record e.g. playing at family parties or for practising purposes instead putting up larger gear.

A large diaphragma condenser mic with tube is also something I dream about, but am not sure whether it must be really such high pricing mics like Rode mics. I am pretty happy about my cheap condenser mics (www.thomann.de, SC-450 pair for 179,- Euro incl. spiders and case). But I am considering a tube preamp. A tube preamp has the advantage that the tube "warming" can be settled from no influence up to really "hot" - an advantage over mics with built-in tubes which have nothing to change that tube warming influence.

Regarding PC I do believe it can be cheap but should be far away from the piano. I recognized heavy notebook fan noise in my last recording, so if the PC can be in another room or far away in a cardboard, that would be ok.

Sandro, if you have finally set up your gear, I really would be interested what you took, and how you put up your microphones on the piano - please keep us updated!

Congratulations, Sandro. I'm very happy for you. I can't wait for you to begin posting using your new piano. I don't know anything about digital pianos, so I don't understand what the differences are between the two types, other than the obvious differences in sound. You will definitely make good use of your new piano with your talent.

I think the difference between playing a digital vs. an acoustic piano is comparable to the difference in driving a car racing video game and actually sitting behind the horsepower. There's a big difference in more ways than one.

We do it up here, indeed. And Martin says they do it there in Quebec today as well. Many things are different in that province (our equivalent to a "state") of the country, such as apparently there are no 7-11 convenience stores there. But in the other nine provinces, they are on numerous street corners.

Now...if not for Miss Teen South Carolina, would you have even bothered with that distinction?
