alright.. ha.. now that I've finally figured out where the "submit" button is.. I can get more active in the forums.. (I swear i've been looking for the past month or so and never thought to look at the top of the site.. they're not usually up there.."

Anyway... I got the sheet music for the Chopin Waltz in F minor.. op. posth. #20.. anyway... I've got pretty much the whole song memorized except the verrryyy last section.. i've been working on this song for a while now because i don't have much time to practice.. but i'm finally almost finished with it and now I have a question..

In the sheet music (i got it from the old piano society website), measure... 122 I believe.. it starts from c# and goes down 4 notes to 2 notes together.. I can't really read what those two notes are... if anyone can tell me what those are.. I can have this song done and memorized in a matter of minutes... i'm thinking they are "D" and "E# (f)" but when i play them I keep telling myself that it doesn't sound right..

is that right? or am I just confusing myself by thinking too hard?

This is strange, because I did read your question a day or so ago, but I had no idea what the answer was because I didn't have this piece. Turns out, I do have this, and just played it for the first time today, and then I posted my thoughts on it on the forum. I thought it was a different piece than what you were asking about because in my book it is titled, Valse Melancolique, but now I see they are the same. (at least I think so). Do you want to cry at the end of the piece?

Anyway, you are right about it being a D and E# together. Too me, it sounds right.

haha no i don't really feel like crying.. I heard 'robert's recording of it and thought it was beautiful so i started playing it. i make people sad when i play piano though because i only learn sad songs lol.. but they're pretty!

It has been discussed whether this is an authentic Chopin waltz or not and all complete waltz books I have seen excludes this waltz and also often 18 & 19 and sometimes only have waltz 1-14.

Good luck in your playing and no.20 is indeed beautiful and often referred to as Valse Melancolique (confusingly mixed with Liszt waltz with the same title).

I think what khoatran11584 meant was why are we saying that it's in F Minor when very clearly there are three sharps and it's in F sharp Minor. I don't know, I might have just printed out the wrong version (even though it was from this site).

You are absolutely right. I don't know why I said f minor. Must have been half asleep. You have the right waltz.
