it's unfortunate that the papacy has been tarnished by greedy families and their feuds and power struggles. I can see why Dante placed some popes in hell.

You have to realize that in those days popes had as much power as many a king or emperor, including their own operational armies. They were probably no better or worse than the average feudal ruler - though they should have been way above that of course. Anyway the current popes have lavishly apologized for all that, so it's ok now

I'm afraid you missed the latest news: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_affair (go to "Modern church views" paragraph). Juufa, Dante Alighieri would still have much work to do, these days.

Ha, not so much news here. It was clear from the start that Ratzinger is not on a par with his predecessor, and may take the catholic church back to a more conservative age.

Wow - the resemblance is uncanny. That's funny!

(I've never seen a "young" Rubinstein before)

Mixah - can you please put up much, much, much smaller photos? These two here are gigantic and are really screwing up my screen. Take these two off, shrink them so we don't have to scroll, and then re-attach them. Thanks.

Mild snowshoe hiking on New Year's Day. Photo taken in mid-afternoon.

That's beautiful, Alfonso. Maybe next time you can take a picture with you on the snowshoes.
