I know I may be breaking the rules but I thought that I would share one of my compositions that I composed for Percussion Quarter entitled Snapshots. Let's not forget that our fellow piano is also considered a percussion instrument

Anway, this piece was performed in December 2006 and I had the opportunity to work with four percussionists. The catch is that the instruments I used for this piece are not your conventional percussion instruments. The score calls for 3 glass jars, 5 tin cans, a plastic bucket, and a large wooden block (we used a speaker cabinet).

Snapshots is a collection of five short piece. In this work, each percussion instrument is given the opportunity to shine. The first four pieces have a featured soloist in which on of the four instruments gets to show its personality, while the others provide commentary and rhythmic support. The first piece (Celebration) features the sound of the tin cans; the second (Dance), the plastic bucket; the third (The Challange), the wooden bucket; and the fourth (On A Roll), the glass jars. After each instrument has had its say, they all come together for the final piece (Flight), which is constructed like a fugue. It is based on a rhythmic theme that is stated and answered by all four instruments, allowing them to become equal in importance.

The first piece reminds me of the sounds on the roof of rain mixed with hail.

My favorite is "The Challenge". For some reason, I think of two spider crabs fighting for some unclaimed territory. You know, when they throw their two front claws up... LOL, I actually found a pic!
