I have posted this in two other forums but I like making sure it gets around. That way I can get suggestions :)

The recording dynamics sound bland for some reason so I welcome any ideas on how to make this better.

Hey Manny,

Your technique is great and you do pull this off well. Yes the dynamics are a bit in your face here. Is your mic source simply that of the video camera? Video cameras don't always have the best electronics for capturing sound or rely solely on the built in mics. I'm disappointed with the Zoom video camera for the fact that it does not allow for external mics to be attached as is available on their hand held digital recorders. Being able to have separate mics allows you to place them for the sound quality and yet place the camera for the video. I know some on this site who do videos actually record the sound onto separate audio equipment and then put them together on their computers.

It would be nice if you would actually post audio directly here that could ultimately be posted on PS. Links to external sites can be a bit off-putting to members since it has the feeling that one does not truly care to be a part of this group (just my humble opinion).

Good job and I look forward to hearing more of your music.

Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your input. I used the built in mic on my Canon T3i, which isn't so great for piano recording as we can hear. One more factor is that the piano (A Yamaha U3) has enourmous and deep sound. It is in a rather small room so the sound easily fills it on all ranges. I'm just starting to take home recordings seriously so I need to do some digging and learn how to accomplish great sound in terms of taking acoustics and mic position into account. Separate recording devices seem to be a little expensive, but I'll see if I can add an external microphone to my camera. Or, even to a laptop and then put sound and video together afterwards.

I did not mean to offend with the way I posted the video, what is the etiquette for member recordings here? Do you mean I should post recordings specially for PS and not from Youtube for instance? I want to start off on a good foot with PS :)

Thanks,

Manny
