That was a very good recording of this very difficult piece!

Joe, here is possible a tip or two if you dare to try it ;). The Toccata starts off with a perpetual repetition of the note D, interchanged between the right hand (which plays the single note) and the left hand (which plays the same note but with the lower octave as well). After a brief development, there are chromatic leaps in the left hand whilst the right hand plays a repeated figuration. The two hands soon switch positions, although the leaps still continue for a while.

A series of split chromatic thirds leads upwards until a descending melody (in A) with chromatic third accompaniments begins, with the left hand traveling in contrary motion upwards. This leads back to the main repetition 'theme' before a very short pause. Both hands soon play a weaving series of the right hand's repeated figuration from the start, before the split chromatic thirds pattern reappears. This leads more violently to the descending melody pattern, but this time in D, before the D repetition 'theme' reappears, this time in alternating octaves in both hands. The toccata slows down and halts temporarily before a chromatic rising scale leads to octave exhortations, followed by a glissando sweep up the keyboard to end on the top D.

As good a performance of the Toccata as any I have heard. Terrific drive and virtuosity. The closing pages in particular are fantastic. I would have liked a little more made of the climaxes in the first part, where the RH and LH start far apart and then move towards each other. These sound just a bit too casually tossed off and could perhaps make more of an impact. Apart from that, nothing at all to wish for.

Are you sure, that's your recording? I'm almost sure, that this recording is RECORDING OF MARTHA ARGERICH. I have compared both recordings. Don't you trust me? Check it yourself.

This is either some kind of mistake or a fraud. Copyright S. Setrakian ??!! - Ridiculous ! This is a recording from the Debut Recital of Martha Argerich. Every fool who knows this recording can hear that. Just to make sure I just had a look at both of them in my audio editor - they're identical.

The waveform is indeed identical to the right track of the Argerich recording. It'a apparently been converted to mono, and that seems to rule out the possibility of mistakenly having uploaded the wrong track - even apart from the added ID3 tags. I'd be interested to hear Mr. Setrakian's explanation for this.

It is proven fact and at the moment, we have tracked down other recordings, both midi-to-sample recordings and "normal" piano recordings that are proven fake.

Action is being taken as I write this. It will be more to come on the subject.

Whatever the outcome of the 'controversy' this is an amazing piece. I recently attended a concert by John Lill (UK's best pianist?) when he played this for his finale and blew the audience away. I thought the Steinway was going to bounce off the stage!

8) In bar 5 a 6, she plays F on the lowest key while it should be the even lower B-flat. But someone, she recovers in bar 7 from this mistake and from there, nothing is wrong. I noticed this when I studied the prelude years ago. For sure, she must know this herself as it is not easy to hear so probably, she thought she would get away with it ;).
