My teacher wants me to work on 20th century other than Khachaturian and post-experimental music... So he handed me these pieces to work on, and Copland's Cat and Mouse...

There any good recordings? The cat and mouse, I've found crappy Youtube videos of... and the six short pieces (I THINK... Op. 34? - I don't have it here, I accidentally left it in the studio on Monday, and it's locked up until after New Years)... I can't find at all.

Any help?

Yes, you're sitting on them. Go to the main site, there are 2 recordings of the 6 Little Pieces Op.19 by Schönberg. Haven't listened to Lee's interpretation, but that one by Bertoglio is first rate.

Is it post-experimental music? Schoenberg Op.19?


By the way, admins, Bertoglio's recording is the complete set, not just the first piece.

well, the post-experimental stuff that i was referring to was more like classically influenced stuff from the 60s and after... after the whole serialism into george crumb type music...

in other words, i've never performed anything outside of stuff with a tonal center.

Neither have I, and I'm not sure I ever will. I've come to appreciate Shostakovich and Hindemith, but neither had a problem with tonal centers.

he wanted me to learn a george crumb piece... I looked at it, and it was seven pages, no sequences, no repetition of anything, and no clear-cut keys ever defined... half of the chords could have a name put to them...

he told me i need to learn them to better my memorization skill.
