Hi all,

I just came home from my son's band contest where he played a solo trombone piece and I accompanied him. I've attached a little part of it that we recorded last night - the third movement. There's a bunch of slips on both of our parts, and we never got a good, clean take, but oh well...

I'm proud to say that he did better this morning for the judge. Except he had a major problem in the middle of the first movement when he had to do a page turn - there wasn't supposed to be one there!

Anyway, I'm going to leave this up here for just a short while, as he will kill me if he finds out I did this.

My wife used to play the trombone ... I worked for years with her practicing her mouth-pursing technique. *long-suffering sigh* what I've sacrificed for the arts.

Terez, he may be older than you think. He’s eighteen now. This year he’s been playing bass trombone in the band, but for the solo he played tenor trombone. Last night, he used his old, beat-up trombone which has a slide that doesn’t slide smoothly anymore, and there is a hole in the bell that is being covered with scotch tape. It’s a sorry-looking instrument! He left his good trombone at school and played on it for the contest (good thing). I hope to get a better recording when he remembers to bring it home.
