Chopin's Fantaisie in f-minor

This piece crept into my mind this week, so I played through it, which I haven’t done in years, and have totally fallen in love with it. It has all the drama that I crave - the harmonies and melodies that make my heart pound and seconds later bring me to tears. Oh, I just love when that happens. Plus, I was surprised that it isn’t as hard as I used to think it was. Anyone else like this piece?

LOVE this one! Haven't looked at it since I played it for juries like 4 years ago, though. Perhaps I should dust it off...

I hate to break the melancholy, but I don't find this piece capable of bringing "tears to my eyes" (since I never cry in the first place :wink:

) ...but a piece which is, IMO, more sad (or is it sadder) is the 4th Scherzo. :cry:

Well then you need to start a new thread about that.

ok, yes there's parts of the 4th scherzo that pull on my heartstrings, but the rollercoaster is better with the Fantaisie.

I love the Fantasie (or is it Fantasy?) in F Minor! This piece pretty much defines what Chopin was all about. It's sad and slow in some places like a funeral march, and in others it's really powerful. And the whole piece is perfectly, intricately, and brilliantly written. I tried to play it a few years back, but it took me more than 20 minutes!!! I should probably try to play it again soon. You're right pianolady, though, it isn't as hard as it sounds.

I love this piece, i believe it to be one of Chopin's true masterpieces with the first and fourth ballades and his Barcarcolle (i just started realised the brilliance and beauty of this piece) and of course his two polonaises in A flat major. (Heroic and Fantasy). I heard it was the most technically difficulty out of all of these pieces though, though it does not sound as hard as the fourth ballade... Anyway i may have to try it if it is not overly difficult...

I actually tried to play it today, and I think I did pretty well. Kind of slow, but I think the piece is much less intimidating than when you first hear it.

You're right about it being a true masterpiece. I don't think it is harder than the 4th Ballade, though. It's just really long, which is why I may not get this one down completely. I'm not very patient.
