Mozart on the keyboard

Postby Biggemski » Fri Oct 26, 2012 9:39 pm

is there any book, source about Mozart piano playing, please?
I was wondering...did he played by heart or from the score during his concerts? Did he practiced a lot? What was his teaching method? etc. etc.

The question has often been asked.

Why couldn't Mozart find his teacher?
Because he was Haydn.

The Wikipedia page has something to say for how mozart started, picking out notes and having his father
give him his first lessons. []

Here's the only contribution that I have time for:
A thorough examination of Mozart as teacher was published by a Heinz Wolfgang Hamann, entitled "Mozarts Schulerkreis", published in either 1962 or 1963.
There may have also been a work of the same title by a Carl Bar in 1964.
I got this out of the end notes for "Mozart" by Maynard Solomon, one of the best-known English language biographies, published in 1995 by HarperCollins. Some of your answers may be in this book, but I could not find anything in 10 minutes' perusal.
As far as using a score in his concerts, keep in mind that he conducted from the keyboard, and that he wrote new works constantly, so I would not be surprised if he used the scores.

I suggest the book "interpreting Mozart on the Keyboard" by Eva and Paul Badura-Skoda. It's probably long out of print, but may be available in libraries, or used copies may be available at Amazon or E-Bay.
