Vartiations on a Polish Theme, Op. 51

The Variations sur un thème populaire polonais (Variations on a popular Polish Theme) Op. 51 date from 1901. This set, consisting of an introduction, 10 variations, and a coda, is arguably Liadov's masterpiece for the piano. Firmly in the style of Chopin and Tchaikovsky, it is full of felicitous detail and masterly idomatic keyboard writing, and is a worthy representant of Russia's golden age of pianism.
Dedication: A Madame Sophie Poznanska-Rabcewitsch.
