Brendan Kinsella

"A sensitive musician with an ear for color" – The Cincinnati Enquirer Pianist Brendan Kinsella has appeared throughout the United States and abroad as a genre recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. Mr. Kinsella began studying piano at age 11 and made his concerto debut at age 15 with the Kentucky Symphony. In August of 2001, Mr. Kinsella performed throughout China as a collaborator with the Starling Chamber Orchestra and has since performed chamber music programs with members of the Cincinnati Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic, and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.
 
As an enthusiastic performer of new music, Mr. Kinsella has performed works by Chen Yi, Corigliano, Crumb, Feldman, Cage, Berio, and numerous others. Since 2001, Mr. Kinsella has closely studied Olivier Messiaen's piano and chamber output. Recently, he performed selections from Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus at the Cincinnati Art Museum as part of a series of concerts celebrating of the paintings of Claude Monet and other French 20th-century artists. Other recital programs have included the Počmes pour Mi, Chants du terre et de ciel and the Quatour pour la fin du temps.
 
Mr. Kinsella was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and earned his Bachelor of Music (with honors) and Master of Music degrees from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music as a pupil of Frank Weinstock, with additional coaching from James Tocco and Kenneth Griffiths. Currently, he is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he studies with Robert Weirich. In his spare time, Mr. Kinsella enjoys studying foreign languages and works as a computer consultant.
