Froukje Verhagen practised as a pianist with Else Krijgsman, Geoffrey Madge, Albert Brussee and David Kuyken.
In 1997 she obtained her UM-degree (Master-degree) for piano at the Utrecht Conservatory.
In the same year 1997 she graduated in composition at The Hague Conservatory with
Diderik Wagenaar. Several compositions of hers have been performed a.o. in Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague and Utrecht.
She is very interested in the music of the 20th century. Her performance of the compositions of Scriabin are praised everywhere and on the invitation of the Scriabin Museum and with the help of the Ambassy of the Netherlands in Moscow she participated at the International Scriabin Festival in Moscow in 1998.
To improve herself as a pianist she took lessons from the Russian pianist and Scriabin authority Ilja Friedmann and from the well-known Dutch music pedagogue Ton Hartsuiker.
She has also a great affinity with contemporary music and she has made a name for herself as an interpreter. She excelled at the Bussotti Festival in The Hague in 1998. Within the framework of this festival she had also an appearance in the ‘Spiegelzaal’ of the Concert Hall in Amsterdam.
In the last few years her interest in the compositions of the Romantic composers has been intensified. On her repertoire she has a.o. works of Chopin and Liszt.
