Tim Bateman
I was born in 1964 in Bromley, UK. I had some basic musical training at the age of 10 in trumpet, guitar and piano but soon became discouraged and gave up. It wasn't until I was 23 that I became interested in classical music and coincidentally gained access to a piano at the same time. I soon fell in love with the Schubert impromptus and Beethoven sonatas and became determined to play them - little did I know. Anyway the first five years were the hardest and since then I've gone on to discover the wonders of Bach, Chopin and Schumann and most recently, Shostakovich. I also have a special fondness for Rachmaninov but don't feel up to the technical challenge as yet.
Lately I've had a spell of five years without playing but started again in 2008 with renewed enthusiasm.
I now live near Bristol and am also a keen amateur photographer.
