Jeremy Kasala was born October 25, 1988 in Toronto, Ontario (Canada), and
remained there until moving to the small nearby town of Belleville, also in
Ontario. He was completely oblivious to classical music until age 16 when he
discovered the sombre first movement of Beethoven's 'Moonlight' sonata. He
began learning to play this piece on a digital keyboard using only his ears and
a recording. Once he realized that he was capable, he learned a number of
pieces by ear before deciding to find a teacher and a true acoustic piano. He
aquired both, and his first formal lesson took place in the fall of 2005 with a
reputable pianist by the name of Francis Rose. Recognising his late
introduction to the instrument, he has worked feverishly in an attempt to make
up for the many years spent without it. During his lessons, he has discovered
the genius of such composers as Chopin and Scriabin and has since idolized
them.
Jeremy is currently studying science at Ryerson University in Toronto, but has not abandoned music - he uses a digital piano to stay in touch. Although he is pursuing a career in engineering, his ultimate aspiration is to become recognized and appreciated as a classical composer. He believes that there is no greater satisfaction than having other musicians compelled to study his own work.
