As Tres Marias (The Three Maries)

This charming set of three short and playful pieces, published as a collection in 1959, is one of Villa-Lobos' most popular piano works. It is based on a popular Brazilian children's story :
Once there were three little girls, "The Three Maries of Earth" who romped and played in the countryside of Brazil They were always gay and the best of friends. Similingly they traveled all the paths of life together.
That this trinity might serve as a perpetual symbol of the union of humanity, Destinty has preserved them as eternal stars in the heavens to illuminate the path for the other children of Earth.
